Donsya A’n Loryow: The Enchanting Album by Daisy Rickman

Author: Matt Kennedy. Matt is an East Anglian-based musician and writer. Known for his crazy on-stage presence with psychedelic rock band Floral Image, he now searches for new ways to express his Magickal motoring mind through the expression of words and free-flowing thought towards music, bands and artists that embody a shining light that shouldn’t go unnoticed.

Musicians like Daisy Rickman are as rare as snow on Christmas Day in England. They appear to arrive on this earth out of nowhere, falling from the heavens to grace our souls with their visions of beauty and harmony. They harness unseen energy and flow and spread their love into our world like spores in the wind. A few artists who share the same spirit as Daisy are Nick Drake, with his hauntingly beautiful melancholic voice, Vashti Bunyan’s fairytale storytelling, and Linda Perchacs’s psychedelic mindscapes.

This is not a comparison of music although they are all folk musicians, these angels all possessed a rare quality that many artists will seek their whole careers. These angels were blessed to share their light upon us so effortlessly. It doesn’t come to my surprise the endless demand for Daisy’s first record “Donsya A’n Loryow”. This record seemed to emerge from the stars and it’s quite fitting the re-issue is a sparkled coated limited edition vinyl. How beautiful it looks when you shine a light down upon the spinning record whilst listening to her astral dream-like melodies and double-layered harmonies.

Daisy Rickman hails from the southwest coast of England, the tantalisingly gorgeous county of Cornwall. Surrounded by the glistening blue of the ocean, mythical ancient stones and so much folklore, this album and the way it sounds and feels was only ever meant to be made along its shoreline underneath the heavenly glow of the moon. The English translation is “Dance Of The Moons”

When you close your eyes, it’s hard not to imagine sitting by the shore on the crumbling cliffs of Penzance, listening to the sirens sing as the waves gently brush upon the rocks in the salt-kissed breeze underneath our silver moon.

From the spoken word versus “Alice” that creates such visual moments of storytelling to long instrumental tracks like “Borlowen”- an eight-minute fairy world dream sequence of glittery guitars and ascending vocal melodies. This is an album that should be on everyone’s radar and in everyone’s record collection. It’s a timeless treasure that will be remembered as one of the greatest albums to have ever been created.

Daisy truly harnesses the magic from the spirit world deep within her being. Donsya A’n Loryow was written and recorded entirely by herself; playing every instrument. Not to forget the craftsmanship of the former Dead Skeletons guitarist Ryan Van Kreidt whose mastering skills truly pieced together this charming album.
